Euthanizing Dessie Daisy a.k.a D’Money

Dessie Daisy a.k.a D’Money

I’ve been having a rough time since I got home from Vermont. Dessie Daisy, our fourteen-year-old beagle mutt, isn’t having fun anymore. I don’t know if her condition (old age) got progressively worse while I was away or maybe I had just gotten used to seeing her so feeble, but the poor baby can barely hobble from room to room. When I pet her, I feel her ribs through her shaggy fur. She’s just a shadow of the old D’Money.

Recently, Dessie’s been letting me know loud and clear she’s ready to go; it’s like she’s challenging me to make the call. Over the past two days, she’s completely stopped eating. Her breathing is labored. I worry all the time she’s in pain.

Mason’s been away working at a NHRA Drag Race in Chicago since last week. He gets home today. If he confirms my suspicions it’s time, then we’re calling Dr. Dan. Last year, we made the same arrangements for Joe Poop, so unfortunately we know just how this goes down. I wrote a whole series of posts on euthanizing. For more, click here. Like with Joe, we’re planning on having the vet come to the Farnival, so D’ Money can die at home.
