Buddy Doesn't Like His Sister

Buddy aka the dog with no tail

This morning Mason and I drove to Kentucky to visit Buddy, the dog without a tail. We took along his littermate Tori, a current Farnival foster dog, and the moment they saw each other, they bolted in opposite directions, Tori yanking her leash towards the car, and Buddy hightailing it under the small wooden porch attached to the front of Beth’s mobile home. There was no aggression, but considering their history, we didn’t push the issue, letting Tori back into the Honda and Buddy into the house.

Buddy looks so good, like night and day from when I saw him last. His amputated tail has healed, he’s put on weight, accepts affection, and wears a happy expression when no other dogs are around. He adores his current mom Beth, always sitting by her feet or staring adoringly at her kind face. I think the feeling is mutual, but Beth still wants to find Buddy another home. And I understand. Her work hours- as a janitor – are long and so is her commute, and she barely earns enough to support her frugal lifestyle.

Currently, Donna, ICHBA’s founder, has reached out to a Logan County, Kentucky rescue agency, which initially said no because they were full, but Donna hopes with persistence she can convince them to help Buddy. ICHBA has also offered to provide transportation, vaccinations, and flea and tick preventative until we find a rescue agency in Kentucky that has room for him.
